Water repair teams encounter problems in Brentwood Park

Crews are working on the problem.

An area of Brentwood Park will be without water for possibly two days.

Ward 23 Clr André du Plessis said a pipe burst along Dascia Street in Northvilla on Wednesday.

“The water department team came out but severely damaged the valve and thus could not close it to initiate repairs,” du Plessis said.

He said a valve was shut on Thursday, stopping the water flow to Brentwood Park and Northvilla.

Du Plessis said the main pipeline then burst in two other places this morning (February 2), after the water was turned back on.

The councillor said repair teams are encountering problems with the repair.

“The main line is encased in concrete and thus they can’t access it,” he said.

Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson, said crews are attending to the problem.

“In efforts to minimise the inconvenience to customers, the affected water network will be isolated and bypassed so that water is reinstated to large parts of the area by this afternoon,” said Gadebe.

“This involves putting in a new valve to isolate Brishona Lodge from the main supply, which will allow for water to be reinstated to the rest of the area.”

Du Plessis said Brishona Lodge could be without water for two days.

Du Plessis said the complexes around Dascia Street should have their water switched back on by 2pm today (February 2).

Water tankers will be stationed at Brishona Lodge, Alquin Mews and along Flamboyant Street.
