Police issue warning to Uber drivers

Police are urging Uber drivers to be vigilant.

This comes after a number of hijacking cases were recently reported in Daveyton, Crystal Park and Reiger Park.

These cases were reported in December 2017 and during the first week of January.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu said it is alleged that the perpetrators will call the taxi with the intention of hijacking the vehicle.

“The alleged suspects will then board the vehicles, threaten the drivers, rob them off their cellphones, money and flee with the vehicle,” said Mngomezulu.

“The vehicles will later be found abandoned.”

Mngomezulu said no arrests have been made yet, however the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team is investigating.

If you’re an Uber driver and you receive a suspicious phone call, alert the police on 08600 10111.
