Security company to the rescue at Homestead

Paul Rotherham, of Farrarmere, wrote on December 27:

I got back from an awesome evening run but was extremely annoyed to see the state of the Homestead Dam.

I ran along the dam four days ago and enjoyed the sunset with hardly a paper in sight.

Today, it looks as if a rubbish truck has dumped its entire load from one end to the other.

Paper plates, bottles, cups, glasses, toilet paper and God knows what else – it’s sickening.

This, together with the total lawlessness of speeding drivers who race through the suburbs, leaves me saddened at how South Africa’s society has deteriorated.

With little consideration for anyone else and a total disregard for the law, what future are we building for our children here?

I really love this place, but perhaps those who are leaving our shores for ‘greener pastures’ have got it right.

Situation update

Following my post two days ago regarding the disgusting state of Homestead Dam, I would like to commend and acknowledge CMS and the Farrarmere Community Precinct (FCP).

Under the leadership of Manny and others from CMS, their small team spent the last two days cleaning up Homestead Dam.

Five bakkie loads of rubbish later – yes, that’s five bakkie loads of rubbish – we can again be proud of one of Benoni’s landmarks.

Please join me in giving Manny, Jaco and their team a huge pat on the back for this.

They do receive sponsorship by way of black bags and gloves etc., but this is largely an initiative that is personally funded by Manny and CMS.

Well done and thank you from Benoni’s residents!
