Elderly man tied up in retirement village

An elderly man was attacked in his house in a retirement village in Brentwood Park at about 2.30am on December 31.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster police spokesperson Capt Mofana Masela said three armed men entered the man’s home through a bathroom window after breaking the burglar bars.

“The victim heard some movements and when he tried to check, it was already too late,” said Masela.

The spokesperson said a firearm was pointed at the victim before he could move from his bed.

Masela said the men ordered the victim to lie down. Thereafter, they tried his feet with a shoelace and his wrists with a cable tie.

The suspects stole three laptops, a television, British pounds and local currency.

The total value of the stolen items is said to be R16 000.

The men then left the elderly man on the floor and made their escape through the kitchen door.

The man’s right arm was injured.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery.
