They dined and dashed, but somebody eventually picked up the bill

A restaurant owner has thanked community members for supporting her after she was apparently harassed and slapped by a woman after four people failed to pay their bill at her business.

Speaking to the woman’s niece, she said her aunt had to endure verbal and physical attack on December 28 at the Northmead-based business.

The niece did not want her or her aunt’s names mentioned or that of the restaurant.

She said four people – two men and two women – ate and drank at the establishment, racking up a bill of R699.

One of the women apparently complained there was hair in her food and told the owner the waitron was “useless”.

A new waitron was assigned to the table and the patrons were offered complimentary drinks.

One of the men apparently used obscene language and told the owner she “+&%ked up his mother’s birthday”.

The owner told the man it was the one-year anniversary of her husband’s death, to which he replied “I do not give a f&%k about your husband’s death”.

The niece said one of the women slapped her aunt when they left.

After the incident was mentioned on Facebook, a community member settled the bill and took the owner a bunch of flowers.

The family member said restaurant patrons do take chances.

“You get people who lick their bowls clean and then say the food was disgusting,” she said.

A criminal case has apparently been opened.
