Nabbed before they could commit robbery

Two men aged 55 and 59 have been charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and impersonating EMPD officers.

The duo were arrested by the Ekurhuleni Central Tactical Team in Brentwood Park on December 21.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, said the police received a tip-off about two men who were planning to carry out an armed robbery.

“Police followed up on the information and managed to arrest the duo on their way to Brentwood Park,” said Sekele.

“The alleged robbers confessed that they were going to rob a certain person.”

The police confiscated EMPD uniforms, two firearms and a white BMW.

The two men are expected to make an appearance in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court today (December 22).
