BHS welcomes new principal

He is the successor of Jake Ceronio who was the principal of BHS for about 12 years

“I am pleased for him,” Ceronio said.

“I think he is the right person for the position and I wish him well.”

Rooyakkers arrived at Benoni High School (BHS) in 2012.

“My position was HOD of humanities,” Rooyakkers said.

Although Rooyakkers lived in KwaZulu Natal before his move to Benoni, he says that he has always been a Johannesburg man.

“I grew up in Johannesburg and only moved to Natal for five years for my parents,” Rooyakkers said.

Rooyakkers said his journey in BHS so far has been wonderful and the school contains many inspired teachers.

“My goal as principal is to maintain the values and principles that BHS holds,” he said.

“These principles include honesty, fairness and achievement.

“I want the school to remain a place where learners are happy to be at.”

Although Rooyakkers is the new principal of BHS, he has not decided to stop learning.

“I am currently studying towards getting my PhD at the University of Johannesburg,” he said.

“I chose teaching because I enjoy seeing others grow and to be a part of building someone’s future.”

Outgoing acting principal Glen van der Westhuizen said he wishes Rooyakkers all the best and good luck in the running of the school.
