Not a fan of your behaviour

‘Homestead fan’ writes:

I want to thank the group of gentlemen who helped my friend and me with our two dogs on a recent Sunday at Homestead Dam when we were set upon by two other dogs off lead.

I’d especially like to thank the gentleman who came flying in like a superhero and chased off the rottweiler as he managed to bypass our attempts to keep him at bay and sink his teeth into my boy.

It’s sad to say the owner of the rottweiler’s response to the whole drama was to bundle his wayward child into his vehicle and resume his position at the water’s edge.

You, sir, are not a gentleman – I could forgive you if you had come up straight away and apologised for your dog’s behaviour.

No one means for these things to happen – it was an unfortunate incident, however, my friend had to go down and speak to you.

I know there are places where all dogs are off lead and mix and play, but Homestead is not one of those places, and to add to that, your dogs went straight in to attack ours from quite a distance, with no provocation whatsoever from our side.

You should keep close attention to your animals if you allow them off lead in a public place.

Indeed I would expect them to be exceptionally well trained and for you to have complete confidence in being able to control them.

There are many dogs being walked and just because your dog has never attacked before certainly does not mean he never will; there is a first time for everything and you can never know exactly what is going through their minds.

It is not the dog’s fault and I worry for your animals because one day they may attack the wrong dog and get severely injured or worse as you do not seem to care enough to keep an eye on them.

For your dog’s sake and for all other walkers at Homestead, if you cannot be bothered to mind your animals then please, leave them at home where they are safe and everyone can walk in peace.
