National Sea Rescue Institute celebrates 50 years in Benoni

The National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Station 27 celebrated the institute’s 50th anniversary and officially launched their station at its new base.

They hosted an open day on November 18 at the Rynfield Dam.

The station started operating from the Rynfield Dam on August 1.

Community members arrived with picnic baskets to enjoy the fun-filled day and had an opportunity to enjoy boat rides with the Sea Rescue’s crew.

There were also fun activities for the children and the crew demonstrated CPR.

The NSRI is a voluntary organisation, with NSRI stations providing emergency assistance at sea rescue bases around the coast and at a number of inland stations.

Station commander Gerhard Potgieter said volunteers are always welcome.

Station 27 can be contacted on the following numbers: Potgieter on 060 991 9301 or 074 553 4015 or WhatsApp on 060 826 3580.
