Three sentenced for theft

Three men, who were arrested for theft and malicious damage to property, were sentenced in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on November 9.

Lekgowa Chefane, Tshotlego Moneti and Joseph Nemangubini were found guilty of theft and malicious damage to property and they were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Moneti was also sentenced to two years imprisonment for being an illegal immigrant and Nemangubuni was sentenced to two months imprisonment for being an illegal immigrant.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said the trio was apprehended by a private security company on April 10.

“The security company then took the suspects to the police station,” said Ramaube.

The three men were found in possession of signal cables which were stolen at Sentrarand Transnet Depot in Putfontein.

The sentences will be served at Modderbee Correctional Services.

Putfontein station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane praised Det Sgt Simon Masako for his outstanding investigative work.
