SA, this Benonian has talent

Entering SA’s Got Talent since 2015, Siphokazi Stofu finally got chosen as one of the contestants on the show this year.

“Believe in yourself, just believe,” the singer said.

Currently, in the finale of SA’s Got Talent, Stofu looks forward to the opportunities that the competition will bring.

Stofu said she was nervous because she was the only solo act; the other contestants are in groups.

“There are more of them than there is of me, meaning they could get more votes than me,” she said.

The Daveyton resident said should she win, she would pay for her tuition fees, would invest the money for her three siblings and put money away towards her son’s education.

The 23-year-old recalls singing from a young age and started studying choral music when she was 12 years old.

“I always knew I wanted to study music,” said Stofu.

Despite being diagnosed with TB in her spine at the age of 12, Stofu said she realised she can do anything she wants to do regardless of her health.

Stofu said at first nobody noticed that she could sing because she would stand at the back. The choir conductor then approached her and asked her to sing a solo and she has been singing since then.

The biggest challenge that Stofu faced during the competition was making sure her assignments were completed on time and adjusting her voice and technique to what was required of her during her performances on the show.

“This competition has taught me patience although I’ve been in competitions and productions before,” she said.

Currently, in her fourth year studying a BTech degree in vocal arts performance at the Tshwane University of Technology, Stofu looks forward to pursuing a career in art and performance industry.

“I don’t think of any other forms of employment,” she said.

“I will be in employed in the career that I studied for.”

Stofu will compete in the finale show of SA’s Got Talent on November 12 at 6pm on eTV.
