Report urinating in public

“The fine for urinating in public is R300, of which the person urinating in public has to pay that amount at a police station,” Sekele said.

Sekele said that because the crime is not classified as a ‘Class A’ offence, but rather a ‘Class B’, the person who committed the crime will not be arrested if they are unable to pay the fine at the police station.

“The person would be issued a form stating they must appear in court whereby the magistrate could sentence the person to a diversion programme.”

Employees of the business that complained saw people urinating in public while waiting in the queue at another business close by.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the metro is not responsible for businesses not providing toilets to customers.

Sekele added that if this crime is committed, a witness must report it to the nearest police station and not take it upon themselves to photograph the incident for proof to the police.
