Putfontein CPF’s Gerhard van Seventer said the informal community behind the Putfontein Police Station is badly affected.

He said some homes had their roofs blown off in the storm.

“Some homes are completely blown off the foundations,” he said.

He said those affected will need shelter tonight, as well as food for them and their animals, as they are unable to prepare food tonight.

Donations can be dropped off at the Putfontein Police Station, which is on Du Randt Road.

Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Benoni SPCA, said her staff is en route to drop off animal food, and blankets.

Pieter Rudolph of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Department, who was speaking from a fire scene at a transformer in Boksburg, said he is waiting for a status update on how Benoni is affected.
