NPOs host Oktoberfest

Two non-profit organisations (NPOs) joined forces this weekend to host a German-inspired Oktoberfest on October 1.

The day was complete with Deutsche volksliedere, music, beer, good food and a positive atmosphere.

LifeLine Ekurhuleni, an organisation which aims to connect with people by providing counselling, training and various support services to the community and the SA Legion were beneficiaries of the event.

The SA Legion is a war veteran support organisation and helps those who served in the South African armed forces in need of housing, pension and employment.

The chairman of the SA Legion Benoni and the founder of the SA Legion Motorcycle Charter – Benoni Jimmy Ross said it is up to the community to look after ex-serviceman and all the money raised goes to the basic needs of ex-serviceman.

Gary Chapman, a representative of LifeLine, said the NPO helps the community by offering a 24-hour anonymous and confidential counselling line, face-to-face counselling by appointment and trauma counselling.

From local businesses to residents wanting to have a fun Sunday, the community came together to support the cause.
