Bunny solution is simple

It is with interest that I have followed your reports about the future of the rabbits that have escaped from the Bunny Park.

Let us first consider the magnitude of the problem.

A rabbit is sexually mature at about five months. Thereafter, it can give birth to five to nine kits every month.

This is, of course, dependent on the availability of food, the mortality rate, etc.

If, among those (reported) 2 000 rabbits that were to be sent to the Johannesburg Zoo, there are 500 breeding pairs producing five kits a month then this rabbit population will more than double every month.

In addition I have a list of 12 diseases found in rabbits that can infect either humans (especially children) and/or domestic pets. The diseases range from ringworm to rabies,

To neuter or spay these rabbits at a cost of R350 each, as reported, is ridiculous.

The escaped rabbits should be captured and euthanased. The money should rather be spent on the further improvement of the Bunny Park and on the training of personnel who have an affinity for animals.
