Little Miss Benoni involved with first charity event

Little Miss Benoni and Petit resident, Chirlene Vorster (11), hosted a fund-raiser for the Greater Benoni Child Welfare on September 9.

Chirlene said she chose the Child Welfare as one of her fund-raisers because she wants the children to know that they have not been forgotten. “They are not here by choice and I just want them to have a fun day. I want them to know they are loved and just as special as everyone else,” she said.

Her mother, Nicoleen Vorster, said they have been asking for sponsors and although some local businesses and members of the community were happy to help children in need, getting sponsors proved to be a difficult task.

“They are just kids – they didn’t ask to be here,” she said.

It is time for members of the community to open their hearts and help these children.

The day saw the children enjoy games, modeling lessons from Chirlene and her model friends, a jumping castle, sausage rolls and lucky packets.

Chirlene is planning a Christmas party for the children’s home in November.

She said her next project, arranging a special day at an old age home, was in the early planning phase.

According to Londiwe Ndlovu, a caregiver at the safe house, they need non-perishable food such as canned goods and cereals.

She said they need people to undertake activities with the kids.

The house is now home to 19 children.
