Man (20) wanted to jump from roof of Lakeside Mall

A man in his 20s was rescued from jumping off the roof of the Lakeside Mall this morning (September 1).

The incident occurred at around 2.40am.

ER24 spokesperson, Sanjay Sukdeo said the man, driving a Corsa, hit a kerb on Tom Jones Street and Victoria Avenue.

“After hitting the kerb, he left the vehicle in the first two lanes on the right-hand side of the road,” said Sukdeo.

“He then climbed on the roof of the Lakeside Mall.”

Benoni SAPS negotiators managed to convince the man to get off the roof.

He eventually came down at about 5.50am, said Sukdeo.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele and the mall’s management confirmed the incident.
