SPCA warns about bogus officials

The Benoni SPCA has advised the public to take the necessary precaution when approached by people who claim to be from the SPCA.

This follows a recent incident in Kempton Park where three unknown people posed as SPCA employees and committed criminal activities.

“It is reported that the three persons posed as SPCA employees.

One of the individuals claimed to be a veterinarian,” said the national senior inspector of the NSPCA, Jaco Pieterse.

“They entered a residential home and committed criminal activities. It is reported that these individuals were driving a green vehicle.

“Unfortunately the vehicle make and registration number is unknown.”

He said SPCA inspectors are obliged to wear full uniform with SPCA insignia and the vehicle used will always be branded with the society’s insignia.

Shelley Owens, chairperson of the Benoni SPCA said the Benoni branch has not received reports of people posing as SPCA officials in Benoni.

She said members of the public who are dubious of people claiming to be from the SPCA should call their local society to confirm.

The Benoni SPCA may be contacted on 011 894 2814/5.
