Cash-in-transit guard robbed at Mayfield Square

A case of cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery was opened at the Putfontein Police Station following an incident which occurred on Monday afternoon.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson, Const Justice Ramaube said a guard was walking into a store in Mayfield Square when he was confronted by five armed men standing in the doorway.

“Suddenly one of them grabbed the bag containing the money,” said Ramaube.

“The guard and the alleged suspects then walked outside of the store.”

Ramaube said while they were outside, the five men got into a NP200 Nissan bakkie with an unknown number of men already inside.

“The driver of the cash-in-transit vehicle tried to knock the Nissan bakkie which resulted in the suspects shooting at the occupants inside the CIT vehicle.”

At about 5.30pm, the cash bag was found empty on a pavement in Extension Two, in Daveyton.

No arrests have been made.

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
