The men, aged between 28 and 35, will again appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on August 25 after they last appeared on August 18.
The deceased was admitted to the Far East Rand Hospital but died on August 14.
The incident occurred on Mabaso Street on August 12.
Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, Capt Mesh Makole said it is alleged the deceased and his friend were trying to steal a construction vehicle and members of the community caught them in the act.
In the previous article published in the City Times, police believed the deceased and his friend were attacked by community members.
“However, police discovered the two men [in the vehicle] were attacked by the three men and there was no quarrel between members of the community and the two men,” said Makole.
The suspects were arrested in Daveyton on August 17.
They are detained in Modderbee Prison.
