Man on the run after firing at police

A man started shooting at the police after the car he was travelling in was pulled over on Tuesday, (July 18).

According to Capt Mesh Makole, Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, police were patrolling the area at around 1pm, when they noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle in Turton Street.

“When police stopped the vehicle, one of the suspects refused to be searched and instead drew a firearm and started shooting at the police,” Makole said.

“As the police retaliated the man carrying the firearm ran and disappeared towards the Daveyton hostel.

“The remaining two suspects surrendered and were arrested by the police.”

Makole said the vehicle is not suspected to have been stolen, but was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
