Five injured in Northmead accident

Five people were injured, one of them critically, when a vehicle was T-boned at around 2.20pm on June 22.

The two-vehicle accident happened on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fourth Street, in Northmead.

According to Sanjay Sukdeo, ER24 spokesperson, four people sustained minor injuries, two of whom were taken to Sunshine Hospital.*

The woman (63) who was critically injured was taken to Life the Glynnwood Hospital.

“At approximately 2.30pm, paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found the woman still inside the vehicle,” said Werner Vermaak, ER24 communications manager.

“She was treated for possible abdominal and spinal injuries.

“Her two children were also in the vehicle with her at the time of the collision.

“Paramedics found them outside the vehicle when they arrived.

“It is understood they climbed out of the vehicle shortly after the collision.”

The woman’s children were taken to Sunshine Hospital.

The two occupants from the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.

*The article previously stated all four patients with minor injuries were taken to Sunshine Hospital. After receiving more information from ER24, this was discovered to be incorrect and was rectified accordingly.
