Cheers for five years of Ebotse parkrun

The popular Ebotse parkrun (the weekly, timed 5km run and walk) celebrated a milestone fifth birthday on the morning of Saturday, June 17.

Over a 100 cupcakes (made and donated by Maggie and Eddie Pringle of Zesfontein) as well as other prize donations from Emperors Palace, Ebotse Links and Spur Lakeside Mall were handed out to mark the celebration.

About 556 150km have been run or walked over the past five years by the 14 969 registered runners and walkers.

The Ebotse event is only the third parkrun in the country to have achieved that feat out of 102 events nationwide.

Ebotse parkrun’s event director, Gary Jackson, praised the 279 volunteers who have made the event possible over the past five years.

“Without our volunteers parkrun won’t be successful,” he said.

“Come rain, snow, heat or hail we are here every Saturday morning and will only cancel in extreme conditions.”

The Ebotse parkrun starts at 8am every Saturday from C R Swart Park.
