Post office takes strain

Roz Simpson, of Farrarmere, writes:

I was under the impression that the primary function of a post office was to deal with all postal related matters, but this is certainly not the case at the Farrarmere Post Office. Their primary function appears to be the renewal of car licences.

I am aware that this is a service offered at certain post offices, but it should not be offered to the detriment of other day-to-day customer services. Surely this service should not hamper the simple task of buying a stamp or registering a letter?

Each and every day there is a queue of people renewing ‘bulk’ car licences.

This smacks of dealers who have realised that it is much easier to use the post office than it is to go to the bulk counter at the traffic department.

Surely the post mistress should be in a position to put a stop to this practice so as to allow the core function of the post office to proceed. As there is forever only one teller on duty, the customer is subjected to inordinate delays. A comment from the post office would be welcome.

Imagine the wait if and when the post office takes over the pay-outs of social grants!
