Twelve children injured in a vehicle accident

Twelve children were left injured in Crystal Park after a taxi overturned on Tuesday morning.

The taxi overturned on Concorde Crescent and Sentrust Street around 8.49am, leaving two children in a critical condition and 10 with moderate injuries.

“ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the taxi lying on its side,” said ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring.

“It was partially on the road and pavement.”

ER24 medic on scene Sanjay Sukdeo said when they arrived on scene, the children were already out of the vehicle.

The taxi that rolled and overturned on Concorde Crescent on Tuesday morning.

“The taxi driver sustained no injuries, so he pulled the children out of the vehicle,” Sukdeo said.

According to Meiring, the children were aged between 15 and 18 years old.

The two children who sustained critical injuries were airlifted using an ER24 Oneplan helicopter and another private helicopter, while the other 10 were transported using various ambulances.

“One child was airlifted to a hospital in Lenasia, while the other was airlifted to the Netcare Union Hospital,” Sukdeo added.

“The rest of the children were transported to Sunshine Hospital.”

Meiring said that the cause of the accident is unknown, but local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
