Since I live on a farm between Bapsfontein and Pretoria, I often work at the Spur during the day while my son is at school in Benoni.

I even have a dedicated table and a waitron assigned to me.

Upon my return to my vehicle on May 29, at about 1.30pm, I found that my vehicle’s front wheel had been clamped.

According the one of the car guards, centre management had done it.

I asked the car guard why it had happened.

He said that the parking is not for staff of the centre.

Since I am not a staff member of the centre, but a regular customer of various shops in the centre, I feel that management acted completely unlawfully.

Is it honestly asking too much to insist that management first ensure they have their facts straight before clamping a customer’s car wheel?

Furthermore, nowhere on the premises of Northmead Square does it warn people that vehicles’ wheels will be clamped.

I could understand the clamping of my car’s wheel if I had parked in a disabled parking without the necessary documentation confirming a disablity.

I eventually managed to get someone to remove the clamp from my car; however, I had to repeat my request for them to hurry up as my son had extra lessons on a Tuesday afternoon for which he could not be late.

The person who removed the clamp took his time and was extremely rude.

I admit that I did lose my temper and raised my voice, but I believe this is understandable under the circumstances.

I contacted centre management on the afternoon of May 30, at 2.24pm, and left an urgent message for the centre manager to phone me.

While typing this message (May 31, at 11.43am), I have received zero response from centre management.
