Benoni rider has grit

Benoni’s Jaycee Nienaber, riding for SuperMoose Roost KTM, is this year competing in the National Off-Road Championships and Regional Championships in the OR2 class.

At the last Gauteng club and regional races (GXCC), held in Fochville in April, he achieved a first place in his class and an overall first position.

He also competed in April in the Kameel 200, in North West Province in the Africa Off-Road Championship where he achieved a first place in his class and a first place overall.

On May 12 he competed in the second round of the National Off-Road Championships held in Dundee in KwaZulu-Natal.

It was a challenging race with extremely cold and rainy conditions.

Nienaber had a bad time trial, missing a turn-off, and qualified 26th on the starting order.

He was full of determination though and, during the 300km race, he improved to achieve a third podium in the class and seventh position overall.

With only two rounds of the championship done, there are only minor differences in the class championships and Nienaber is now situated in second place in the championship.

He is now preparing to compete in the next regional race that will be held on Saturday, June 10 in Ventersdorp.

Then it is time for the big race of the year, the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race, one of Southern Africa’s toughest motorsport events.

It will be held from Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, June 25 in Jwaneng in Botswana, where riders will be challenged by 1000km of gruelling desert racing.
