SAPS: Suspect offered us R600

An employee of an Etwatwa store was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, five rounds of ammunition and bribery.

According to Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe, Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson, the man was arrested at the shop on May 17, at about 10.30am.

“It is alleged that the man worked at the shop as a security guard,” said Maqabe.

“When the man was asked about the firearm, he said the owner of the shop gave it to him as protection for the store.”

Maqabe added that when police arrested the man, he offered the police R600 as a bribe.

A case of being possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and bribery was opened at Etwatwa Police Station.

The suspect will appear at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon.
