You can still get involved with local hockey

The Eastern Gauteng Hockey Association (EGHA) men’s and women’s outdoor field hockey season for 2017 got underway recently.

The first round of matches for the women’s league were played on Saturday, May 6 and the men’s league on Sunday, May 7.

Matches are held at both the EGHA AstroTurf on Brodigan Road in Benoni and at the St Dunstan’s College AstroTurf on the corner of O’Reilly Merry and President Kruger streets (also in Benoni).

Women’s league matches are played from 11.30am, with the last game starting at 3.30pm.

The men’s league matches begin at 8am on Sunday mornings, with the last match starting at 10.40am.

“Both leagues have players, umpires and technical officials ranging in age from their teens through to well into their dotage,” said Shaun Taylor, president of the EGHA.

If you would still like to be involved as a player or official, or if you have a team you would like to enter, contact Taylor on 082 489 0001 or email to president@egha.co.za.
