Northerns defeated by Randburg

It was not the best day at the office for Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first XI when they travelled to an always difficult opponent in the form of Randburg Football Club at the Randburg Sports Complex on Saturday, April 22.

The Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) encounter ended 6-2 in favour of the hosts on a day where injuries to experienced BNFC players skipper Wade Marshall (groin) and goalkeeper Skyeler van den Berg (hamstring) played a big role in the defeat.

“We lost to a very good side and luck just didn’t go our way on the day,” said head coach Jannie van den Berg.

“We had two poor offside decisions go against us, but those decisions are expected from officials when you play away from home.”

With younger players filling the vacancies left by the injured players the Northerns coach was not feeling too despondent about the result.

“Randburg is the best team we have played this season so far and we performed well in the second half with the youngsters.”

BNFC were scheduled Zwide at Northern Areas on Freedom Day (Thursday, April 27) followed by another home match against Olympia on Saturday, April 29.

Reserve team kick-off at 1.45pm, first XI kick-off at 3.30pm.
