Latecomer (69) does it by herself

When a 69-year-old woman arrived at the site of this morning’s protest in Northmead two hours late, she was disappointed nobody was there.

She was unaware that the Stand Up Benoni gathering started at 8am.

Hours earlier, hundreds of people lined O’Reilly Merry Street for several hundred metres for over an hour is solidarity with the rest of the anti-Zuma protests across the country.

Rea Buttner, of Rynfield, said she had to have her say.

She made her way to the Northmead Square where she printed two A4 pages which she used as placards.

For over an hour and a half, she stood at the entrance of the centre – all by herself.

“I am still a person, I will do it by myself; every voice counts,” she told the City Times.

“Everybody must stand together as a country to make their voice heard and let Zuma know he can’t ruin our country.

“We need to stand together as one, it does not matter what colour you are.”
