DA upset by Goby social media comments

Former DA and Ward 28 Clr Mary Goby has been accused of “trying to discredit” her former party.

A statement signed by Ghaleb Cachalia, the DA leader in Ekurhuleni, said Goby’s alleged conduct on social media is of “great concern”.

“Goby did not make it to an electable position in the DA after a two-year performance assessment at the DA electoral college in the wake of the local municipal elections last year,” said Cachalia.

“She then courted and openly supported IRASA, in the hope of being elected as a councillor in Ekurhuleni.

“When she joined IRASA, the DA terminated her membership.”

Goby said she resigned from the DA.

Cachalia said the former councillor has been discrediting current councillors.

“If they (DA) did their job I wouldn’t be contacted,” said Goby.

“Ninety per cent of the time they are unreachable.

“The best excuse is that they are doing DA political work, and they are part-time.”

Goby said she will continue fighting for humanitarian needs in Benoni.

“I am not making the wards ungovernable; they are not governed in the first place – they are a shambles,” Goby added.

“I’m not disgruntled, I’m just extremely disappointed!

“The DA is investigating how I’m reporting service delivery issues and to whom. As a resident I report via the call centre, so what is the issue?”
