Dogs attend owner’s funeral and now need homes
Five dogs belonging to burn victim Barry McCallum need homes.
McCallum died in the Life the Glynnwood Hospital on March 9, 17 days after his car caught fire at his Western Extension home.
The 46-year-old sustained between 50 and 70 per cent burns.

The Newton Avenue resident’s funeral was held in Boksburg yesterday.
Husky Rescue SA’s Ian Jones said the five canines were at the funeral to give them closure.
“We decided that in order to give the dogs closure, we would take them to Barry’s funeral,” he said.
“We know that Barry would have wanted his dogs to be there and we are pretty sure he was smiling down on them today [March 17].”
Jones took the animals to Dawson Lodge in Benoni after the fire, hoping to return them to McCallum after he recovered.
“They were traumatised and confused having witnessed the terrible explosion and fire which caused so much trauma to their human father and protector,” said Jones, who has been friends with McCallum for about 10 years.
“Ghost, the cross-husky-chow, insisted on sleeping on the ashes of where Barry’s car had been and Scar, the boxer, would chase anyone away from the spot where the paramedics had worked on Barry before taking him to hospital.”
One of the pooches, a St Bernard, already has a home.
