Water and power in Brentwood Park, Goedeburg to be restored by midday

Water and electricity in Brentwood Park and surrounding areas is off, but should be restored by this afternoon (March 15).

Clr André du Plessis (Ward 23) said water pressure in the area lowered after a team from a private company struck a 450mm main pipe on the corner of Great North Road and Goud Street.

He said this occurred at around 4pm on Tuesday (March 14).

“They hit the pipe, left the site when they were done and didn’t report it,” du Plessis said.

“We only realised there was an issue when residents started experiencing problems with water.

“A municipal team then went out and worked through the night.

“This was quite a challenge, as this is a large diameter pipe and the streetlights were off in the area at the time.”

The councillor explained that, while the team was working on the water pipe, they in turn damaged the municipal power cable running through.

He said this happened early this morning (March 15) and cut off power to Goedeburg, Brentwood Park and other areas.

“A team from electricity is now out there working on the problem,” he said

“They should have it repaired by 11am.”

Du Plessis added he expected the water pipe to be fully repaired by 10am.
