Rotherham involved with helping others

Zina Rotherham, the co-founder of The 100% Foundation, in Rynfield aims to help others through this organisation.

BCT: Why did you choose Benoni?

ZR: I was born in Benoni and moved to Sandton for a few months in 2007.

I hated it and came back.

Benoni is a special place, it is home.

I have lived in the Benoni area all my life; I grew up in Atlasville and I now live in Farrarmere.

BCT: Tell me why you co-founded The 100% Foundation?

ZR: I started working for Affinity Health as their social responsibility manager in August 2015.

After a few months of doing corporate social work I realised the extent of work needed to be done in the community was not going to be achieved by one corporate on their own; the idea to start The 100% Foundation with CEO of Affinity Health, Murray Hewlett, was the result.

Many people would like to contribute towards community development but are not sure which organisations they can trust.

We provide a way to invest with peace of mind and we offer the opportunity to be involved.

Anyone who uses The 100% Foundation to invest in social development can rest assured that 100 per cent of any funds contributed are passed on to the beneficiary; we do not take a percentage of donated funds.

BCT: What does your job at the NPO entail?

ZR: The 100% Foundation supports five non-profit organisations.

Four are local and one is located in Hoedspruit.

I visit the local organisations regularly and support their projects and programmes.

I source and provide funding and resources and help with administration where needed.

My job is to ensure that they have what they need to continue the good work that they do in our community.

BCT: Tell us more about yourself?

ZR: I attended Arbor Primary School and Benoni High School.

I have an older brother, Jeremy Rademan.

I married Paul Rotherham in 2009 and I have two furbabies (miniature schnauzers).

BCT: What are your dreams and future goals?

ZR: Currently, we are running an education programme with Project Feed the Children.

Approximately 150 children are benefiting from this programme which is designed to improve literacy and numeracy skills and adequately prepare them for Grade One.

In future, I would like to expand our education programme to as many early childhood development centres operating in underprivileged areas as possible.

I believe that educating foundation phase learners is the key to re-building our education system and improving the quality of education in general.
