Security officer comes under fire in Cloverdene

A reaction officer came under gunfire when responding to an alarm at a filling station in Cloverdene early on Friday morning (February 17).

According to Amiel Maritz of APB Security, a reaction officer arrived on the scene at around 2am and was shot at with an R5 rifle.

He said the officer called for back-up and was not injured, despite four of the rounds hitting the vehicle in which he was driving.

Maritz said shell casings on the scene indicate that at least 11 rounds were fired.

Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson WO Rudi Sieberts said a drop safe at the filling station was bombed, but nothing was taken.

It is unclear how many criminals were involved.

A case of attempted business robbery has been opened, but no arrests have been made.
