Northmead man didn’t throw his wedding ring away, as was believed

Friends and family of a Northmead resident thought he had intentionally tossed his wedding ring away.

“Everyone thought he chucked it out the window because I’m difficult to deal with sometimes,” said Kevin Pratt’s wife, Lee, jokingly.

The City Times last week published an article about a wedding band that was picked up by a family out jogging in Varing Street, Northmead, towards the end of December.

Lee saw the article and immediately thought it could be her husband’s ring.

She said Kevin was working on his car on December 19 and took the ring off, discovering later that it was missing.

Although they aren’t sure where on the car it was left, it was found about five blocks from the couple’s house.

“I said we could buy another one but he said it will never be the same because this one was blessed,” said Lee.

The couple turned their home upside down and had almost given up, until the article appeared in the City Times.

In the end, it was the inscription on the ring that led to the return – an inscription Kevin had been hesitant to have done.

“My husband was against the inscription because he said he would never forget our wedding date,” Lee said.

The band was returned on January 26, by Liz Blignaut, who insisted that the claimant identify the inscription.

“Now I know what it feels like to be married again,” Lee joked.
