AB De Villiers makes 134* in Benoni on injury return

AB De Villiers made a return to the cricket field at Sahara Park Willowmoore in Benoni on a day where the Proteas could have used his talent.

Playing for Northerns versus Easterns in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, his first innings since July last year, De Villiers (whose international future has been the topic of many conversations in cricketing circles) looked like he never missed a match with a splendid 134 runs not out from 103 deliveries.

His innings, which included 19 fours and three sixes in just over two hours in the Benoni heat, steered the team from up North to a casual eight wicket win.

De Villiers has been suffering with an elbow injury picked up in last year’s Caribbean Premier League.

He is set to return in green and gold in South Africa’s final T20 international against Sri Lanka ahead of the one-day international series.
