Taxi driver shot in hijacking

Daveyton SAPS are investigating a murder and hijacking case, after a taxi driver was gunned down at the corner of Matthewson and Sihoko streets in Daveyton this morning (December 13).

The incident happened at around 6am.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson, said according to a source, the 33-year-old was shot after arguing with two men inside an Avanza.

“The source said he saw the two men and the driver arguing and a few minutes later, he heard a gunshot and saw the driver running out of the car,” said Sekele.

“The two men drove off in the vehicle, which was later discovered at Lindelani informal settlement.”

Sekele added that the man was shot in his upper body and he collapsed at Mathewson street.

He was declared dead at the scene and the motive of the murder is unknown.

A case of murder and hijacking has been opened at the Daveyton Police Station.

No arrests have been made.
