Former principal dies

Hendrina Francina Haarhoff (née Snelling) died on November 20.

Known to her friends and family as Reena, she was born on September 23, 1941.

According to her daughter, Tanya Ford, Reena wanted to be a lawyer.

“She would have been a great lawyer as she loved to debate,” said Tanya.

Instead, she became a teacher, which she had a passion for.

The Boksburg resident was a history teacher and loved political science.

She taught at Benoni High School and went on to become the deputy headmistress at Willowmoore High School, later becoming headmistress

She obtained her Master’s degree at the age of 48 and retired from Willowmoore High School at the age of 71.

Reena was also a co-founder of Ashton International College in Benoni and Ballito.

“Ashton International College was her passion and her life,” said Tanya.

Her daughter said her mother will be missed.

“She was a philanthropist and believed family was very important,” said Tanya.

“She was an incredibly intelligent and beautiful woman who raised two children on her own and always held her head up high.”

Reena’s motto in life was “no matter what, the sun will always come up tomorrow”.

A memorial service was due to be held in Braamfontein on Decmeber 5 with a family memorial on December 16, in Braamfontein.

She leaves behind her daughter, Tanya, sister Louise Abrie and her three grandsons; Connor Ford (18), Ryan (23) and Lance Dyer (27).
