Bullfrogs come out in Benoni

Benoni environmentalist Anne Mearns has cautioned the public not to squash frogs on Benoni’s roads.

She said she has received reports of frogs being squashed by motorists, as mating season has started following the recent rains.

She is particularly concerned about the dangers posed to the Giant Bullfrog.

Mearns, who is Ekurhuleni representative for the Gauteng Conservancy Stewardship Association, said 13 to 15 frog species were recorded in Benoni five years ago.
