Northmead’s Miss Congo SA finalist

Bilonda Muka, a 23-year-old Northmead resident, is a finalist in the Miss Congo South Africa competition.

With the support of her friends and family, Muka is grateful to have come this far in the competition.

“It’s great to have so many people rooting for me; I’m honestly blessed to have such a great support group,” she said.

The competition will be held at the University of the Witwatersrand, at the Wits Theatre in Braamfontein, on December 10.

What made you decide to enter Miss Congo South Africa?

BM: My primary reason for entering the competition was to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone onto a bigger platform. Secondly, I want to bring attention to the Congolese community in South Africa.

Briefly describe what Miss Congo South Africa is all about?

BM: Miss Congo South Africa is a pageant focused on bringing the Congolese community together by empowering young women.

How has the journey been so far?

BM: It’s a beautiful journey thus far – I’ve met 34 beautiful contestants. The journey of being a part of Miss Congo SA is one that will groom all of us to being our best, which I hope I can accomplish.

What are some of the challenges you’ve had to overcome throughout the competition?

BM: In the competition we’ve been given tasks that vary from acquiring sponsorships, creating partnerships with local business, charity work to securing media coverage.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

BM: My mother (Solange) and father (Theo). Yes, I know it’s a cliché but I’ve honestly never met any other such hard working, loving and selfless individuals; who serve their communities so tirelessly.

Should you win, what are some of the goals you would like to achieve?

BM: I want to partner up with institutions that focus on social development for children and young adults, through motivation and recreational activities. I also want to use this platform to educate people about my country, the Democratic Republic of Congo.
