Talented Bosman is one for the future

Fifteen-year-old Casey Bosman is an athlete who is going places.

The Grade Nine Benoni High School pupil has shown exceptional prowess as a runner.

Training under respected coach Glen van der Westhuizen, at Benoni High Athletics Club (BHAC), the teenager has put in hours of hard graft to become one to watch in both track and cross-country running.

She is the South African cross-country champion in the u-15 age group, as well as the Central Gauteng provincial 3 000m track and cross-country champion for schools and clubs.

Bosman recently placed third on the track at the South African High Schools Track and Field Championships, in Bloemfontein, and braved on, despite illness, to finish in fourth place at the SA Championships for clubs in Germiston.

She has also proved that she can cycle, by finishing in overall second place at the Gauteng Duathlon Championships, among Central Gauteng and Gauteng North duathletes.

The teen is an all-round talent and not just an able athlete.

She is a strong academic (Top Five in her grade) and gets her cultural fix by participating in drama.

Van der Westhuizen praised the prospect for her commitment to her goals.

“She has so much potential and the biggest thing about that potential is the work ethic she has,” he told the City Times.

Bosman believes that the effort that she has put in has led her to become the South African u-15 cross-country champion.

Through consistent and dedicated training, Bosman hopes to someday achieve her dreams of competing at the Olympic Games and at the IAAF World Championships.
