Dogs and cats sterilised in Daveyton

The Thanda Inja Project mounted a three-day sterilisation campaign, in Daveyton, from October 4 to 6.

A total of 71 dogs and cats were sterilised, vaccinated and treated for ticks and fleas, and a few ill dogs were also treated.

Vets from various areas came to offer their time and assist in the sterilisation campaign, including Dr Pieter Engelbrecht from the Rynfield Veterinary Hospital, and Dr Tanya Grantham, from Animal Health and Hydro in Benoni.

The project is a Pug Rescue SA initiative and, every second Tuesday, the organisation conjoins with state vets from the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) to offer free services in informal settlements such as Gabon and Chris Hani, in Daveyton.

Pug Rescue’s Cheryl Gaw said the initiative will not be possible without continued donations of food, collars, leads and funds to purchase the necessary medication needed for the animals.
