Buys is ready to make a splash at Sun City

Lakefield resident and EFC fighter JP Buys (20) is aiming to bask in the rays of victory after he takes on Durban’s Baldwin Mdlalose, in a highly anticipated rematch, at EFC 54, at Sun City, on Saturday, October 15.

This time, though, the EFC interim flyweight title is on the line and Buys is hoping to make amends for his defeat at the hands of the very same opponent, via rear-naked choke, three minutes and 29 seconds into round one, in September, last year, at the Durban International Convention Centre.

The ever confident Buys is positive that he will get sweet redemption at Sun City.

“I am bringing my A-game and bringing the best of JP Buys,” he told the City Times.

“I don’t think that fighting for the title is any different from a normal fight.

“It’s all a mindset of how badly you want it.”

Asked what he is expecting from his opponent Buys said: “He always brings a good fight.

“Firstly, I am expecting him to make weight, other than that I don’t really care what he does.

“I am just concentrating on doing my own thing.

“I have matured a lot as an athlete since we last met.”

It will be the first time that EFC is held at Sun City and Buys is excited by the opportunity to show his mettle in that arena.

“I always look forward to a fight, it just makes it even more exciting that it is at a place like Sun City,” he said.

The Fight Fit Militia (FFM) fighter said that he has had unbelievable support in the build up to his title fight.

“My family, friends and team have been absolutely amazing,” he added.
