Man ‘accidentally’ killed in shooting

A man died after a firearm was accidentally discharged in Western Extension this afternoon (September 15), according to paramedics on scene.

The incident happened at about 4pm, on Mowbray Avenue.

“When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene, we found that the man had already died,” said Athlenda Mathe,
Netcare 911 media liaison officer.

“The exact detail as to what happened will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.”

Paramedics declared the man dead on scene.

Benoni Police Station commander Brig Johan Jacobs confirmed the incident.

He said police at this stage do not believe there is foul play involved.

The man who discharged the firearm was still on scene at 5.50pm.

A case of murder will be opened and the incident will be investigated.
