Women empowering other women

The Black Management Forum Ekurhuleni (BMF) hosted a women in business seminar at the Lakes Hotel and Conference Centre, on August 20.

The purpose of the event was to give women an opportunity to showcase the contribution they have made in advancing socio-economic transformation in the region, and in the country, whilst encouraging others to follow suit.

BMF’s mission is to develop and empower managerial leadership, primarily amongst black people within organisations.

BMF Ekurhuleni chairperson Alma Moses said BMF was founded two years ago in Ekurhuleni as they saw continuous growth in their national branch.

Moses added that it was befitting for them to celebrate the grace and fire in every woman during Women’s Month.

On the day various guest speakers shared words of wisdom and experiences they have encountered as they climbed the ladder of success.

One of the speakers, Nana Madikane, director at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) South Africa, shared her leadership lessons under the topic “Breaking the glass ceiling in the corporate world”.

The talk was based on getting through setbacks.

“Setbacks are a stepping stone to your promotion,” said Madikane.

“Know your value and be bold, stand up for what you believe in.

“Don’t be scared to raise your voice and be heard.”

Madikane added that women should continuously break through the glass ceiling.

The other guest speakers were Zanele Ntsibande (CEO of Lokuhle Trading and Projects), Nokwazi Mzobe (founder of Matoyana Business Solution) and Dr Maureen Tong (chairperson of the Young Women Business Network).

Guests were able to network and build contacts with other women while enjoying a light lunch.
