Artists encouraged to enter competition

Entries for the City of Ekurhuleni’s annual national Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards are now open.

The city calls on all artists to participate in the 29th instalment of the contemporary fine art competition by submitting their work before the submission deadline on August 18.

Judges will select an exhibition of the best artistic work and the winning artist will walk away with R160 000.

The selected artworks must have been completed in the 12 months prior to the competition.

Dates of the 2016 Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards submission of artworks are as follows:

Works may be entered on August 16, 17 and 18 from 9am to 7pm at the Coen Scholtz Recreation Centre, Mooifontein Road, Birchleigh North, Kempton Park.

Satellite entry points are available at Boksburg Library on August 16, from 9am to 4pm.

Springs Art Gallery on August 16 to 17 from 9am to 7pm.

Katlehong Art Centre, 203 Sontonga Street, Phooko Section on August 17 from 9am to 4pm.

This year’s competition will be presented in collaboration with the Lizamore and Associates Mentorship Programme.
