Thousands raised for Cansa

Face Facts hosted their ninth Cuppa for Cansa on Saturday (August 6) at the Benoni Country Club.

Tanja Spencer, who was the main organiser for the event, started the campaign as a deed to do something positive in society.

However, the event became more significant for Spencer five years ago when her friend, Sarah Sawkins, died from cancer.

“We invited her father, Bob Turner, to speak at the breakfast on behalf of Sarah,” Spencer said.

The event saw an attendance of more than 180 guests, and the money which was raised (approximately R40 000) was donated to the Cansa (Cancer Association of South Africa).

“Last year we gave R50 000 to Cansa,” Spencer added.

Dr Angela Murphy, a specialist physician in Sunward Park, also spoke at the event teaching women about the importance of women’s health.

The Face Facts team gave prizes and held a raffle at the event.

“All you need for Cuppa for Cansa is a cup of tea, good friends and to contribute a donation,” said Face Facts member Bridget Jewkes.
