Gouveias are giving it gas and going for gold

Benonian father and son combination of Tony and Michael Gouveia scored their second win of the season when they won the Lichtenburg 200, round five of the Northern Regions Cross Country Car Championship, recently.

The Gouveias, in their Gearbox Services and Exchange BAT, came in around two minutes ahead of Rikus Prinsloo and Leila Lerm, in an Aceco, who were involved in a tremendous battle with third placed Francois Smit and Craig Galvin in the Hunky Pallets Zarco.

The Gouveias, Prinsloo/Lerm and Smit/Galvin also finished in that order in the battle for Class P honours.

The father and son duo prepare their vehicle in the workshop at their Kemston Avenue business, Gearbox Services and Exchange, and won the 2012 and 2014 championships.

They are now lying in second in the 2016 championship with just two races to go.

The next round of the Northern Regions series will be run in conjunction with the Nkomazi 450 in Malalane, round five of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship, on August 26 and August 27.

“We are building a new car which will be ready for next year’s national championship,” said Tony.
